Willmar’s Community-Owned Grocery—known as the COG—is advancing steadily towards opening doors in 2015. A local foods-based initiative, the COG will provide fresh, locally-sourced products to the Willmar region with a business model inspired by co-ops like the St. Peter Food Co-op.
The site selection committee–which includes Engan Associates Project Architect Andrew Bjur–considered several different locations for the blossoming co-operative.The COG announced this Spring that it has signed a lease on 3,000 square feet of retail space at 1600 Hwy 12 SE in Willmar. The site already is home to Westside Liquor and Mr. B. Chocolates. Engan Associates will serve as the projects’ architect, transforming the existing space into a full-service market.
